Mr. Savoie just garnered such positive press at first that it struck me as unfair. However, now that the whole story is coming out he isn’t eliciting much sympathy at all with his behavior before, during, or after their divorce. His antics are probably hurting the true victims of unfair child custody policies more than helping to bring the problem to light.

I do think she is very optimistic. By personnal experience, and by the other Foreign parents’experience in Japan too, I know that unfortunately « other arrangements », even you speak Japanese very well, are very very difficult, because usually, the Japanse ex-wife and family refuse to talk and to negociate.
And because Japan protects its citizenswho abducted children, Foreign parents are very few hope and chance to see their children again.

The linked article is from the couple’s local paper. The story caught my attention because it seemed so one-sided in favor of the father, so I read several articles about it. It’s all from newspapers and they get things incorrect frequently, but the story has a lot more context than at first impression. He speaks Japanese, is a Japanese citizen, started a business in Japan, met and married Noriko, and the children grew up there. I think the children are dual citizens. I’m from the U.S., but the mom deserves some sympathy and understanding.
